Sustainability

A greener meeting place
Linköping Konsert & Kongress, one of Sweden’s three Swan Eco labelled day conference facilities.

For us it is obvious to provide meeting places which take care of both people and the environment.

Visit Linköping & Co actively work to reduce the environmental impact and be a viable option. Justifiably in February 2015 our facility Linköping Konsert & Kongress became one of Sweden’s three Swan-marked day conference facilities, the only one in the region.

Our Bistro had already attained the Swan-mark in 2009 and in 2014 Visit Linköping & Co.’s first environmentally aware event was held. We offered ecological and locally produced ingredients, disposed of our waste in an environmentally friendly way and chose environmentally approved suppliers.

The whole of Linköping Konsert & Kongress is also Green Key certified, an international eco-labelling for sustainable conference and hotel facilities. The Swan-markings for Linköping Konsert & Kongress as a day conference facility is further confirmation that the environmental work is of a high standard.

However, this is only the beginning, we will continue actively working with sustainability and inspire other conference facilities to do the same. Read more on our sustainability work below.

Our eco-labelled Bistro with a menu of local produce

With great pleasure Linköping Konsert & Kongress offers their guests food & drink in Linköping’s first Swan-marked restaurant.

As early as 2009, Konsert & Kongress Bistro had the coveted Swan-mark, the official Nordic eco-label. The Swan-mark is a strategic cornerstone in our environmental work and has, for example, inspired us to increase the proportion of ecological ingredients in the food we serve, introduce new routines for waste disposal and reduce the number of deliveries from our suppliers.

Locally produced
Linköping Konsert & Kongress invests in regionally produced food as a part of the work for the environment and promotion of local production.

Since October 2007 the restaurant at Linköping Konsert & Kongress has been a member in the Regional matkultur (Regional Food Culture), which means that we always offer food with regional connections. In the restaurant at Linköping Konsert & Kongress, dishes comprising ingredients from Östgöta district are prepared and served. The menus, both for the set lunches and conference/party dinners, are composed with a view to the availability of local produce.

In the restaurant at Linköping Konsert & Kongress you can, among other things, enjoy Östgöta specialities such as Amadine potatoes from Fornåsa, bread from Slåttergubbens Sourdough Bakery in Borensberg and cider from the Brunneby Brewery. In this way Linköping Konsert & Kongress benefits food producers in the region at the same time as ensuring that the ingredients used have not been transported from far afield, which would contribute to increased emissions of pollutants.

A cup of Coffee
Linköping Konsert & Kongress serves only coffee that is Rain Forest Certificated. The certification means that one can guarantee that the coffee is produced under socially acceptable and environmental conditions. This is one way for us to contribute to better working and living conditions for coffee growers and their employees in developing countries.

Make your meeting more sustainable

A carbon neutral Linköping by 2025. Linköping municipality’s objective to achieve a more sustainable society for present and future Linköping residents is ambitious, but we absolutely believe that together we can accomplish it. It simply depends on everyone being aware and playing their part. We will therefor give you a tip on how you can make your conference in Linköping more sustainable by very simple means:

Before the meeting:

  • Communicate digitally with the participants before the conference
  • Inform the delegates in the invitation that it is an eco-friendly conference and how you can make a difference together
  • Send us the correct delegate number in good time before the conference so food is not wasted
  • Do request local produce, seasonal and/or vegetarian menus when booking refreshments
  • Book or recommend the most eco-friendly mode of transport for delegates and encourage those who need to take a car/taxi to share
  • Use Swan eco-labelled paper if something must be printed out before the conference
  • Use eco-friendly transport and printers for materials that need to be brought
  • Make ‘give-aways’ climate friendly items

During the meeting:

  • Use digital registration
  • Please use the same glass or coffee cup throughout the day
  • Instead of writing on flip-charts, presentations and information can be given digitally
  • Share meeting documents digitally

Ordinary water only…

Every year Swedes drink circa 280 million litres of water by the bottle. Ten years ago we only drank half that amount. It was because we began to drink more bottled water that carbon dioxide emissions increased. Since the beginning of the 90s there has been an increase of around 34,000 tons of carbon dioxide, about the same amount of emissions as nearly 13,000 cars in one year.

At Linköping Konsert & Kongress we do not serve water in bottles. Instead you will find water stations outside our conference rooms. In this way we reduce our transport emissions and resulting pollution.
